1. Say what you do in one sentence

Visitors decide in seconds whether they're in the right place. Your opening line should say what you do, who for and where, in plain words.

2. Work brilliantly on a phone

Most visitors arrive on a phone. Text should be easy to read, buttons easy to tap and pages quick to load on a mobile signal.

3. Make getting in touch effortless

Put your phone number, email and a short enquiry form where people can find them on every page. Fewer form fields usually means more enquiries.

4. Show you're real and trustworthy

Real photos, examples of your work, genuine reviews and clear contact details reassure people that you're a business they can rely on.

5. Get the search basics right

Each page needs a clear title and description, and your business should have a Google Business Profile. These simple steps help people nearby find you.

What you can skip

Long animations, sliders, pages nobody reads and jargon. If it doesn't help a visitor take the next step, it can usually go.
