A school website built around what families need
Shoreham Beach Primary School & Nursery needed a warmer, easier-to-manage website. We designed and built one that puts everyday parent tasks first and gives the school control of its own news and calendar.

The challenge
- Parents needed to find everyday information (term dates, absence reporting, lunch menus, uniform) without hunting through menus.
- Prospective families needed a warm, honest picture of school life, including the nursery.
- Staff needed to publish the headteacher's weekly blog and calendar dates themselves, without waiting on a developer.
- Statutory key information had to be easy to reach and easy to keep current.
Our approach
We started with the questions parents ask most often and the jobs staff do every week, then shaped the structure, design and content around them. The school reviewed each stage before we built it, and we designed for phones first because that's how most families visit.
What we delivered
A parent-first homepage
The things families need weekly sit within one click of the homepage: term dates, reporting an absence, the lunch menu and uniform.
Warmth without clutter
A calm layout built around real photography of the children and a short welcome from the headteacher.
Blogs and calendar the school controls
The weekly blog, news and events are editable by staff, with add-to-calendar links for parents.
Key information, clearly signposted
Curriculum, SEND and safeguarding pages are grouped and linked prominently for families and inspectors alike.
Built for phones and accessibility
Designed mobile-first for parents at the school gate, with clear headings, image descriptions and strong contrast.
The outcome
The new site is live, and staff now publish the weekly blog, term dates, trips and updates themselves. Measured results will be added once enough real usage data is available.
